Pepper turned 15 in November. He has a lot of really good days. But with age has come some struggles.
He has had skin allergies since he was a puppy. About 4 months ago the vet switched his meds. As you can see he has several patches of dry, itchy, flakey skin that is driving him crazy. So we have switched him back to the original allergy shot.
Pepper has had increasing anxiety and panic attacks. He has lost his hearing and his eye sight isn't great.
He has also been diagnosed with Parkinsons and dementia. He's been on medication for those for several months now but recently we had to increase those meds as well. It seems to be helping!
Unfortunately, they still think that he would not survive the surgery if they were to try to remove the massive lump on his tummy. It doesn't seem to bother him, so guess we just live with it. There is a possibility of it bursting and that scares me, but for now they don't want to do anything about it.
I know it sounds like a lot of things wrong (and it is) but overall he's doing really well. So far no mobility issues.
He's still my baby and loves hanging out with me. He's never too far from my side. He's given me a lifetime of joy and love and for as long as possible I'll give him the care and love he deserves.
It's hard having an old dog. It sure tugs at your heart strings. Sigh
Animals are awesome.....and it hurts when they get old!!!! Years ago we had a dog that had skin allergies. She was on vet medications and whatnot. We used aloe for her. It eased her discomfort! Hugs to you and your pup (and yes, she will always be a pup!)
