Tried and True

Flylady

After trying The Organized Mum Method for five months, I'm going back to Flylady.

I feel like I followed The Organized Mum  long enough to really give it a chance.  I do like it! I will probably use it again once in awhile.

But Flylady still has my heart. After following the routines I have set up for 23 years, it's just the way I like things.  I have learned, however,  that even though you are encouraged to change a few things and "make it your own" if you change if too much it just doesn't work.

I think that is what happened to me several months back. I was so far into my customization that I wasn't really following along with the program.

Using The Organized Mum for a few months allowed me to get away from what I was doing and now I can reset the Flylady system.

No matter how long you've been doing something,  it's ok to take a step back, reevaluate, and start again!

Let's talk housework

For the past 23 years I've followed the Flylady cleaning system,  and I love it. But in October I decided to give The Organized Mum Method a try.

It has been quite the mental adjustment.  It's hard to break old habits lol. I'm on month 4 of this trial.  I figured I'd better give it several months just to be fair.

I am liking it, and slowly getting my head wrapped around this new routine. However, I'm not quite ready to delete my Flylady Routine. I may go back to it at some point.

If you know the Flylady system,  you know that she focuses on one area (zone) a week. The Organized Mum focuses on one area a day for light, maintenance type stuff with a rotating, focused deep clean on Friday's. I like that everywhere is getting some attention each week.

I'll be sticking with this until at least the end of March before I make a decision on what to do after that.  Have you tried either of these methods? Do you follow a different plan? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Getting old is hard

Pepper turned 15 in November.  He has a lot of really good days. But with age has come some struggles.

He has had skin allergies since he was a puppy. About 4 months ago the vet switched his meds. As you can see he has several patches of dry, itchy, flakey skin that is driving him crazy. So we have switched him back to the original allergy shot.

Pepper has had increasing anxiety and panic attacks. He has lost his hearing and his eye sight isn't great.

He has also been diagnosed with Parkinsons and dementia. He's been on medication for those for several months now but recently we had to increase those meds as well. It seems to be helping!

Unfortunately,  they still think that he would not survive the surgery if they were to try to remove the massive lump on his tummy. It doesn't seem to bother him, so guess we just live with it. There is a possibility of it bursting and that scares me, but for now they don't want to do anything about it.

I know it sounds like a lot of things wrong (and it is) but overall he's doing really well. So far no mobility issues.

He's still my baby and loves hanging out with me. He's never too far from my side. He's given me a lifetime of joy and love and for as long as possible I'll give him the care and love he deserves.

It's hard having an old dog. It sure tugs at your heart strings. Sigh
